Questions about online degree approval

What does UGC-DEB approval mean?

UGC-DEB decides, year by year, which universities may offer which programmes online. An online degree is recognised only if the programme was on that approved list.

Why do you ask for the admission year, not the passing year?

Approval is granted for each academic year of admission. What matters is whether the programme was approved for the year you joined, even if you graduated later.

My specialisation isn't listed. Is my degree invalid?

Not necessarily. Some approvals cover a degree, such as an MBA, without naming specialisations. Ask the university for its UGC-DEB entitlement letter, which lists the approved specialisations.

Can I do B.Tech, MBBS or law online?

No. Professional degrees such as engineering, medicine, law, pharmacy, nursing and architecture are outside UGC's online scheme, so no university is approved to offer them online.

Does this confirm my certificate is genuine?

No. DegreeCheck confirms the programme was approved for your admission year. To verify a specific certificate, use DigiLocker or the university's own verification service.

Where does this data come from?
